Meet The Family

My father Ivica Bocevski was born on June 15, 1977, in Skopje. My father is a politician, diplomat, and a scholar from Macedonia. Although he studied and lived in many cities around the world, he loves Skopje the most. 

My mother Valentina Popovska was born on May 31, 1971, in Kumanovo, Macedonia. Her godmother insisted on the name Valentina, after the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova (1963). My mother is ...

My great-great-great grandfather Atanas Gjorgievski was born in the second half of the 19th century in the village of Sopište, on the southern slopes of the mountain Vodno in the vicinity of the city of Skopje.

My great-great granduncle Angel Dimovski was born 1914 in Skopje. He was an industrial worker, but also a politically active member of the global communist movement.

My great-great grandfather Kuzman Jovanović was born 1897 in a small village called Vučkovica in Western Serbia. He became an orphan as a child, and he was trained as carpenter in the shop of his uncle in Požarevac.

My great grandmother Eleonora Pura was born in 1916 in Kruševo, then part of the Empire of Bulgaria. She is a very exotic grandmother because she comes from a very small ethnic group on the Balkans, called the Aromanians - Vlachs.

My great grandfather Novak Popovski was born in 1909 in Kumanovo. He was a skilled carpenter and a son of an orthodox priest (Pop Jovan, my grandfather’s namesake and consequently my namesake).

My great-great grandaunt Vera Trajkovska (better known under her nom de guerre "Vera Kotorka") was born in 1925 in Kumanovo. She was a one of the famous resistance fighters in the Second World War and a member of the communist youth.
